We were thrilled to see Abbetthaus featured in the April 2020 issue of Inside Out Magazine. Completed in 2018, this Certified Passivhaus (or Passive House as its known in Australia) was built on a compact 213 sqm block in Scarborough, adhering to strict sustainable and thermal properties in its construction to achieve optimal liveability year-round. Retreat Design director, Steve Johnson, had worked with the client on previous commercial projects and was approached to design and manufacture the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry for his beach side abode. Retreat Design liaised with Leanhaus Architects on the design with the brief to provide a quality and timeless kitchen that would meet the environmental principles of the Abbetthaus building.
White cabinetry from Arrital’s AK_Project collection was used in the kitchen, complimenting the desert modernist design and ensuring the crazy pave natural stone flooring remained the hero of the open plan living and dining area. A striking black Fenix NTM floating vanity from Arrital was used in the ensuite which looks superb against the Atlantic Granite picket wall tiles from Myaree Ceramics.
Abbetthaus is a building of innovation and efficiency and was a crowd favourite at the Open House Perth 2018 weekend. The end result is a true testament to what can be achieved using best practice of sustainable residential building design. A sophisticated and superbly comfortable home to be enjoyed for many years to come!
