“A 100-year-old colonial mansion is the basis for Macalister Mansion, a quirky yet sophisticated lifestyle-orientated residence where visitors can experience Penang’s rich heritage – without even leaving the building.”
Completed in 2012, the Macalister Mansion in Penang’s Georgetown is the first Malaysian member of Design Hotels. This cutting edge boutique hotel pays homage to Penang’s rich colonial past and it’s colourful present with a luxuriously eclectic interior. The concept is unique in its vision “Macalister Mansion is designed around the idea of an old English mansion. Each space is designed to provide hospitality of an actual home – good food, fine drink, engaging conversation, soothing music, a good night’s sleep or simply lounging by the pool.”
The Macalister Mansion owners worked with Colin Seah of Singapore’s renowned Ministry of Design to renovate and revitalise the 100 year old colonial residence, preserving the buildings heritage aspects and original elements while adding modern day amenities and contemporary design touches. Each of the 8 guest rooms are individually decorated with their own bespoke features and artwork and guests can drink or dine in the super cool Living Room, Dining Room, Cellar or Den at leisure.
We noticed that Zucchetti’s ‘Pan’ collection of tap ware is featured in the guest bathrooms and complements the silver and white mosaic bathrooms perfectly.
