Space Saving Bathroom Ideas

Given that bathrooms are often the smallest room in the house, we have put together a list of space saving ideas to help maximise your bathroom floor plan.

  1. Wall Mounting │By selecting cabinetry and fixtures which can be wall mounted you free up valuable floor space. (e.g floating vanity or wall mounted toilet)
  2. Mirrors │As with any room in the house, large mirrors help to reflect light and create the illusion of space. Floating mirrors (set off the wall) adds extra depth to a small space.
  3. Natural Light │Windows and skylights are a great way to capitalise on natural light and increase ventilation.
  4. Door Placement │Careful consideration should be given to the placement of doors so they don’t impact on the available space. Sliding doors and open showers are good spacing saving options.
  5. Towel Ladders │Multi functional towel ladders allow for more hanging space in the one location.
  6. Light & Bright │Keep the bathroom feeling bright and open by choosing white and neutral coloured tiles and fixtures. Nothing closes up a space more than dark colours.
  7. Forgo the Bath │Hate to say it but with our busy lifestyles, a soak in the tub isn’t usually a daily occurrence. Consider whether you can eliminate the bath which takes up a huge amount of floor space and is often under-used. Incorporating a larger shower and extra storage is a more practical use of space.
  8. Large Tiles │Large tiles mean less grout and visually this makes the space seem larger. By continuing the same tile up the wall you can also trick the eye.
  9. Overhead Shower │An overhead shower eliminates the need for a space encroaching wall fitting.
  10. Undermount Sink │ Avoid a counter top sink and instead opt for an under-mount sink which sits just below the bench top surface. Wall mounted mixer taps also free up more bench space than the traditional basin set fixtures.
