A scullery or butler’s pantry is now more common than ever in our new kitchen designs. The unsung hero of the kitchen space, a scullery is traditionally a second, smaller room off the kitchen in which to hide dishes, a sink and pantry items that you wish to keep out of view and away from the main area. Increasingly, the kitchen is an entertaining area with open-plan living and dining in full view, therefore it makes sense to hide the hard working elements behind closed doors.
Commonly sought after for extra bench and prep space, we also like to hide some of the smaller appliances in these rooms such as microwaves, coffee machines, juicers and extra sinks to keep the main kitchen looking presentable and clear of clutter.
Retreat Design is well equipped to help you incorporate a scullery into your design and plan the space to maximise its functionality. Below we have included some images of previous projects which feature clever scullery and butlers pantry rooms.
There is also a great article on Houzz.com.au discussing the benefits of including a scullery in your home design. Click here to have a read.
