Top Kitchen & Bathroom Trends for 2020

Debunking The Myths of Imported Cabinetry

With the start of a new year we’ve compiled a list of design trends for the kitchen and bathroom in 2020. Whilst our designs are based on longevity and relevance for the years to come, its also nice to incorporate a few modern touches into our work.

See below for our design trends forecast for kitchens and bathrooms for the year 2020!

Kitchen Trends 2020 – Retreat Design

  • Open plan, breakfast bars, study nooks
  • Where possible adding a scullery into the kitchen design
  • Integrated appliances, hidden behind beautiful cabinetry
  • Seamless transition between kitchen and living area
  • Cabinetry continued from kitchen through to TV and living areas
  • Texture and depth of colour in material selections. It’s about being unique and inviting
  • Marble, stones and quartz with lots of veining and colour. Introducing pops of colour such as purple, blue, dark green and red in the furniture
  • Unique marbles and stones with lots of character (less of a cookie cutter style kitchen)
  • Warm colours such as timber, copper and black and brown
  • Timber highlights in the cabinetry to break up the ‘all white’ kitchen
  • Stone continued from bench tops up splash back for continuity of design
  • Integrated cabinetry lighting for mood and task lighting
  • Display cabinets integrated into the kitchen cabinetry for possessions and glassware to be on display
  • Large format porcelain bench tops
  • The use of different and progressive new kitchen surfaces such as Fenix NTM® (opaque, anti-fingerprint, highly durable, matt finish) and the hard wearing Paperstone ® (created from recycled paper and a non-petroleum resin)
  • Oxidised and metallic lacquer cabinetry and recycled woods (see Arrital)
  • Mixing materials in the kitchen with timber and laminates etc
  • Textured and coloured tiles used for splash backs such as handmade Zellige tiles and glazed tiles
  • Interesting tile patterns for the splash back such as vertically stacked, offset and herringbone etc
  • High quality, beautiful looking appliances with design finishes to complement the kitchen interior
  • Unique tap ware in different finishes such as brass, copper, black etc
  • Statement range hoods in different powder coat finishes to add interest

Bathroom Trends 2020 – Retreat Design

  • Warm colours (for a cold space). Brown, warm woods etc
  • Mid century modern style bathroom
  • Spa like atmosphere, creating a sanctuary or retreat
  • Lighting features in the shower. Chromotherapy. I.e. Invigorating lights for morning shower, peaceful subdued lighting for evening
  • Freestanding tubs
  • Large, expansive walk in showers
  • Hotel like environment with integrated cabinetry lighting and music & wifi
  • Statement marble, granite and quartz bench tops
  • Statement tile selections such as Kit Kat (finger tiles), penny rounds, patterned tiles.
  • Back lit mirrors and unique mirrors to add interest
  • Niche display nooks for accessorising the bathroom
  • Statement floor and wall tiles with colour and pattern or texture
  • Architectural fittings focusing on quality and design finish
  • Underfloor and towel rail heating for added luxury
  • Large feature windows, skylights and extra ventilation with the likes of louvres etc
  • Hanging cabinetry with unique finishes

Many of these design features are a staple in our kitchen & bathroom renovations and we look forward to continued design development over the year ahead.
