City Beach – Kitchen

Completed in 2021, our City Beach project is a great example of how a new kitchen can transform your space into a cohesive living environment whilst staying true to the style and furnishings of the home.
The home itself was only built 7 years ago however the kitchen was poorly executed and didn’t reflect the quality of the house and site which overlooks the stunning Indian Ocean. Retreat Design was employed to re-design the kitchen and scullery and provide new cabinetry for several of the bedrooms.
The existing layout was largely kept the same however we incorporated a bigger island bench with seating for guests.
With the viewpoint from the living room into the kitchen, we decided to create a space which focused on a beautiful piece of artwork which was commissioned for the new kitchen. Custom made glass display cabinets sit either side of the artwork and the focus lighting really enhances the art and valuables on display.
The client loved the idea of a black kitchen and was also keen to use the same dark granite ‘Imperial Fez’ which was used to the clad the fireplace in the living room. The kitchen was designed with Arredo3‘s Kali collection in matte black Fenix with white cabinetry for the scullery. Dekton Kovik was used for the benchtop and splashback to the side of the kitchen and in the scullery.
At the front of the kitchen the 50mm granite island bench is the standout feature with matching granite splashback and an integrated fridge. The scullery accommodates an integrated fridge, full length wine fridge, concealed storage room, appliance cabinet, dishwasher, two sinks and a hidden laundry.
We love how the design of this space really connects with the clients own personal taste and furniture which has been collected over the years.
